Our Patron Margaret Mahy welcomes you all to BookTalks, a site for authors and illustrators to have conversations with readers using Skype.

BookTalks is an easy and fun way of connecting early childhood centres, schools, and other organisations with New Zealand authors and illustrators using the free online software Skype.  This service is brought to you by CORE Education.

Schools regularly invite authors and illustrators to speak to students knowing that the benefits of these authentic connections are highly motivating and inspiring. BookTalks enables this to happen without the costly overheads of time and travel involved in the traditional face-to-face approach.

Once BookTalks users are registered they can select from a wide range of New Zealand authors and illustrators profiled on the site and who have made their times available for online meetings to take place.

When an author or illustrator has been selected, an automated email is generated putting both parties in touch with one another. It really is that easy! Each location will need broadband, a webcam, and Skype software downloaded. For large groups a data projector and screen are also recommended.
