In Brief

Fifi Colston is a published writer, illustrator, poet, workshop presenter, occasional columnist and many times Wearable Arts finalist. She is also a regular arts and crafts presenter on the Good Morning show on TV1. For seven years she also presented arts and crafts on the children’s television programme What Now. She has two grown children and lives in Wellington. 

In Detail

Fifi worked as a scriptwriter on Jane and the Dragon for Weta Workhop in 2003 for a few months, and was employed at Weta Workshop on the New Zealand production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2004 and on Sir Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit' in 2010. In addition to her writing and illustration work, Fifi is a regular entrant and finalist in the Montana Wearable Arts Show.

Fifi has served as the President of the New Zealand Illustrators’ Guild, Convener of the Wellington Children’s Book Association and a Wellington committee member for the Storylines Festival and was a judge for the NZPost Children’s Book awards in 2008. She was the co-convenor of the 'Spinning Gold 09' Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Conference held in Wellington.

In 2007 Itiiti’s Gift (Reed, 2006) written by Melanie Drewery won the CLFNZ Notable Books Picture Book. Itiiti's Gift was read simultaneously all around New Zealand at 10.30am on Wednesday 12 August 2009, in celebration of 'New Zealand's Biggest Storytime' (during Library Week 2009).

Her latest illustration work is for ‘The Red Poppy, a sensitively written book set in WW1 by David Hill, published by Scholastic, due for release in March 2012.
